Robert Ironside (Blair Underwood) is a Chief Detective in the San Francisco Police Department. People that meet him for the first time always tend to look down on him or to make the mistake of taking pity on him because of his condition. He is stuck in a wheelchair after an unfortunate incident in his line of work. Because of that he might have become a closed man but it wasn’t enough to change who he is: confident, pushy, aggressive, stubborn and almost never the man to play by the books.
Together with his team he is a pain in the neck for both people he has to work with and the criminals. The men that follow him are carefully chosen by Ironside himself and they share a common trait: they are as motivated to close cases as he is, no matter the methods they have to use.
Usually his attitude gets him in a lot of trouble. He’s never following the procedure and that puts in in a hot spot. But it’s hard to argue with a man who, in the end, saves lives and closes ugly cases that not many have the mind sharp enough and the stomach strong enough to deal with.
